Facebook’s New Snapchat-Like Features – Social Media Marketing

Facebook’s New Snapchat-Like Features – Social Media Marketing

Facebook has borrowed from Snapchat again. With the launch of Stories (a 24-hour Snapchat-style photo and video feature), the social media marketing giant has mimicked its much smaller competitor. And not for the first time.

Questions On Our Minds

Is this merely an attempt to widen horizons, or an unabashed attempt at copying? Merely a move to fend off Snapchat, a much noted rival since 2011, or has Facebook realized that its users need 4 apps, not 1? Is it about outrightly killing Snapchat, or merely hiking its service to its users?

Whatever it is, this is actually the fourth time that Facebook has copied a key Snapchat feature.

Borrowing features from Snapshot seems to have worked for Facebook, though.

As of December 31, 2016, Facebook has more than 1.86 billion monthly active users. The world’s most popular social networking site, Facebook also became the fastest company to reach $250 billion on July 13 2015 (Standard & Poor’s 500 Index).

Snapchat is a messaging service for images and other media.

In May 2015, the app’s users were sending 2 billion videos per day. This reached 6 billion by November 2015. Snapchat boasted of 10 billion daily video views in 2016.It raised $1.81 billion in May 2016. The app had 10 million users in the United Kingdom and over 156 million users worldwide by Dec 31 2016.

First testing them in Ireland in January, Facebook has tried to virtually bake Snapchat features into its apps.

Facebook Features That Bear Resemblance to Snapchat

Facebook has continuously borrowed Snapchat features, with not only functional similarities but common features as well. Let’s take a look at three of these.

Instagram Stories Vs. Snapchat Stories

Snapchat Stories have been around since October 2013.

Instagram Stories have been functioning since August 2016. Instagram (Facebook-owned) lets you take a picture or video, and customize it. This content will remain for 24 hours, after which it disappears. Whatsapp and Messenger (another Facebook app) have similar features now.

Facebook Messenger’s Camera Vs. Snapchat’s Camera

In Dec. 2016, Facebook Messenger introduced a new camera interface, which is quite similar to Snapchat’s camera screen. A tiny Snap logo and digital effects are the only difference.

Facebook Original shows Vs. Snapchat Original Shows

Facebook is reportedly trying to create an original video series. Snapchat did the same thing. However, there are a few differences – for example, Snapchat wants short shows, while Facebook is opting for 30-minute shows.

So has Facebook gone too far this time, with these additions to its apps? Many people are unconvinced that Facebook’s new addition is positive. However, it wouldn’t be the first time Mark Zuckerberg bet against the house, and won.

How To Reach Millennials Through Social Media – Target Marketing

How To Reach Millennials Through Social Media – Target Marketing

If your target marketing customers consist of millennials, post-millennials and generation Z, then social media is the best way to reach out. This is the group that will soon become the biggest customers for all companies. That’s why you need to attract them to your brand. Here are some of the things that you need to know about new-age millennials. You’ll need to take all of this into account if you’re planning to make them a part of your marketing goals.

Millennials born between 1980 and 2000 make up 25% of the world’s population. According to a survey by Guiding Tech, it has been proved that millennials spend more on online shopping than brick-and-mortar stores. This amount is likely to double by the end of 2020.

This is the generation that has a lot of money to spend. The growth of e-commerce has only added to it. People can shop anywhere and everywhere and at any time of the day. And that’s exactly what they’re doing.

Millennials are the true digital generation. This means you can’t reach them through traditional media. Marketers are using social media to reach out to millennials and generation Z.

But the moment a marketer gets used to a particular type of content and ad on a social media platform, the customer base shifts to a new platform. But there are a few platforms that have remained stable over time. They’re expected to do so in the future as well.

Facebook

Target Marketing

Facebook is on top of the list for many millennials. They use to it remain in touch with friends and family. The platform, with solid features like videos and messenger, has managed to remain the default social media for million of users around the world.

In a recent survey, the amount of time millennials spend on Facebook will remain the same in the coming few years. That’s because Facebook has a stable platform. They don’t introduce flashy features to try and win over any new audiences. This means that the same audience is likely to see the same ad and content. This increases brand awareness.

 InsTarget Marketing tagram

Millennials and generation Z make use of Instagram to maintain closer relationships. In the same survey, it was revealed that millennials are likely to spend more time on Instagram in the future. That’s because Instagram has added new features in 2016. This includes Insta Direct and live video. This attracts more users to the platform, especially millennials.

Snapchat

In 2016, it was Snapchat that saw the most surge in users, compared to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Although the app hasn’t changed much since its inception. There’s been a few additional filters, group chat, and ability to edit snaps. It’s use as a social media platform is likely to increase over time.

While Instagram and Snapchat are slated to become the best social media to reach millennials, it’s important for professionals to know where their audience spends time. They also need to spend time to figure out where they’re headed next. This can help stay ahead of trends.

Keeping an eye on the platforms and the features they are adding is important. If new features interest their target marketing audience, they need ramp up their advertising strategy in that network.

Use YouTube’s Live Video Marketing Feature To Boost Your Exposure

Use YouTube’s Live Video Marketing Feature To Boost Your Exposure

Video Marketing Toronto
YouTube launched its live video marketing streaming feature for desktops six years back in 2011. The year 2017 saw the maximum number of political live streams, like the US Presidential debate. With that, YouTube launched live streaming video feature for their app.

YouTube published the launch of a 360-degree live streaming video feature for their app. This has 4K video quality in their official blog recently. The entire world is finding ways to leverage benefits with it.

But not everyone can use it. You need to have a channel with at least 10,000 subscribers to use this new live video feature in your mobile app. As YouTube has said on their blog, remaining users will gain access to it soon.

Needless to say, YouTube is late in launching this feature when compared to Periscope and Facebook. But, with the number of users it has, and the fact that YouTube is the most popular video-sharing website, companies and individuals can make the most of it.

YouTube Live Streaming App

Video Marketing Toronto

Built into the app, this feature is easy to use and have all the features of regular YouTube videos. Open YouTube, touch the capture button, and you’re live.

Your videos are protected from unauthorized use. Users can find your video from search, playlist, or recommendation—just like regular videos.

To stream live videos, confirm that your channel is verified. You won’t be able to stream live videos, if your account has been restricted in the past 90 days. Go to the Live Streaming option, type a title, take a picture for the thumbnail, and go live.

Super Chat

To help monetize live streams, YouTube has also launched Super Chat along with the live streaming feature. Super Chat is a paid instant comment or message that viewers can buy and send to broadcasters.

YouTube will highlight the comment and pin it at the top of the comment box for at least five hours. This feature is available for broadcasters in 20 countries and viewers in 40 countries.

They’re replacing their old feature Fan Funding, where viewers could make voluntary payments to support artists, with Super Chat. This feature will help artists and creators to generate revenue through YouTube.

Live Streaming Benefits

Small and medium-sized businesses will benefit from this feature. They can engage with their audiences in real-time and share valuable information.

Live streaming videos help attract a bigger audience. Real-time videos are engaging and foster online interaction with potential clients and customers. Customers can easily connect to events like product launches, rallies, a concert, and expos. A large number of viewers watch your video simultaneously. This makes it a social experience by itself.

But to reap the benefits of live video streaming, you need a good number of viewers. Also, it’s important that you put in the required effort to let people know that you’re going live. Promoting the event, even when it has gone live, is also important. Once the video ends, promote the video archive as well. This is for people couldn’t tune in at the time. If they like what they see, they’re likely to see your other videos too.

100 million hours – what would you watch with all that time? That’s about 11415.5 years. That number is just the daily, yes daily, amount of video watch time reported by Facebook users last year. We can safely assume that the amount of time people are spending watching video content on Facebook has likely gone up since then. Given the popularity of video content on Facebook, it should come to no surprise that Facebook video ads are being tested  – both in timeline videos and live video streams.

In order to be able to add these videos to your live stream, a user must have at least 2000 followers or at least 300 viewers watching concurrently on a recent live stream. Unlike Youtube, where commercials appear before a video, these videos will appear in the middle of the video. These ads will only appear after at least 20 seconds are played, and must be spaced a minimum of two minutes apart.

Gear Up for Facebook Video Ads Vilampara Media

This is an opportunity for both businesses and popular video content creators – while popular Youtubers have been making money through advertising, this is a move for them to share their videos now on Facebook for profit sharing. For companies looking to advertise, ads will now be able to reach the Facebook market through popular channels.

Profit sharing for this set-up is that video content creators where the ads are posted will receive 55% of the revenue ad share while Facebook keeps the rest.

It will be quite interesting to see how this plays out on Facebook, and how adding more video advertising on Facebook will change the demand for video advertising by businesses.

5 Social Media Trends Of 2017

5 Social Media Trends Of 2017

When it comes to trends, it’s not easy to predict the social media landscape. Nonetheless, here are some trends we believe will dominate the year 2017 in the social world.

Social media is ever changing and what makes it even more captivating is that there is no lack of surprises in this industry—while newer technology has the power to change the social game, an old idea can suddenly go viral. There is always a lot of exciting activity every year, and this year is going to be no different.

Live Video Content Will Become More Popular

Live video content became very popular in 2016, and this popularity is likely to increase. Many streaming sites have become popular; Twitter’s Periscope and Facebook Live being on the top. YouTube has also recently launched a live video feature for users with more than 10,000 subscribers. Instagram is testing their live video option and they are of course, not the only ones doing so.

Live video content is more engaging than content in any other format and is responsible for a lot of growth on various social media platforms including Facebook. Facebook has placed a massive thrust in this area and is working hard to gain a strong foothold amongst users watching videos online.

Social Messaging

Users seem to prefer social networking to social networks. Facebook messenger, WhatsApp, WeChat, and Viber together have more users than the social networks: Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin, and Twitter.

Sending private messages is the preferred way of communication among millennials. An estimated two billion millennials will be using over-the-top messaging apps by the end of 2018, as they prefer the transparency and personal touch that is only possible with one-on-one communication.

Eliminating Fake News

5 Social Media Trends Of 2017

There has been a rise in ‘fake news’ content on various sites that publish inaccurate information regarding current issues, mainly to attract users as a form of click-bait. And the world saw the worst during the US presidential election. Fake news about both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump was widely circulated on sites like Facebook, Twitter, and other sites.

More and more youngsters are turning to social media as their only news source as opposed to newspaper and TV channels. And so, Facebook has already started taking steps to stop the circulation of fake news and other sites are expected to follow suit.

Virtual Reality

Augmented and virtual reality started to take off from 2016 and many tech businesses started investing in this sector.

Pokemon Go became a sensation in 2016 and it’s the biggest example of augmented reality. All the social media platforms are expected to join the virtual reality bandwagon in 2017. Facebook has already confirmed that they are experimenting with the idea of augmented reality. They acquired Masquerade, a selfie and live filter app for live streaming video, which is the biggest proof of that fact.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence is predicted to be a game changer for the year 2017.

Chatbots have the ability to converse with users and while Facebook already has them integrated into its messenger app, many businesses are also using them to converse with customers and solve their queries. They soon will be used to nurture leads and bring in conversions and sales.

Although it may seem like change is the only constant factor in social media, it has now become more important than ever for businesses to adapt, connect, and engage socially with consumers over the Internet.

Here’s to looking forward to an exciting year ahead!
